Updates & News
December 2024 – AGU 2024 in Washington, DC
It was exciting to be part of the Paleoclimate of the Common Era session and hear about the varied proxy and modeling efforts being used to assess recent climate variability! I shared our growing Common Era hydroclimate record of Mono Lake using triple oxygen and clumped isotopes from a surface core.
November 2024 – Water sampling fieldwork at Mono Lake in eastern California!
Winter was quickly settling in, but I was able to sneak in a quick "lake day" to sample Mono Lake sites and access some high alpine sites before the snow came. Water samples will be analyzed for δ18O/δ2H and triple oxygen isotopes (Δ17O) soon. I also wrapped up our first full year of evaporation pan data logging on the east side of Mono Lake. We are working to translate that point-pan evaporation data evaporation into an saline over-lake evaporation estimates through time – stay tuned!
October 2024
First Mono Lake clumped isotope temperatures estimates and triple oxygen isotope data hot off the mass spectrometers in the IsoPaleo lab at University of Michigan! Core sediments were first treated with a bleach solution to remove possible contaminants, then rinsed and dried, and finally digested in phosphoric acid to release CO2.
August 2024
I had a fantastic time giving a Refreshing Ologies Talk at Mono Lake Committee, Lee Vining, California while out in the basin collecting water isotope samples. Thanks to the MLC for inviting me and to the audience for their insightful questions and for the really fun conversations!
June 2023
I am very excited to be starting as an NSF Postdoc at University of Michigan, working with Drs. Naomi Levin and Ben Passey. I am thrilled to join the awesome IsoPaleo lab group and learn more about triple oxygen isotopes! Reach out if you have any recommendations for Ann Arbor!
April 2023
Super proud of Maddy Broda for successfully completing her Bates College senior thesis! She did fantastic work integrating a complex dataset of stable isotopes and aqueous geochemistry to find where water is being lost due to evaporation across the Mono Basin. She's off to work on a Masters at the University of Vermont!
April 2023
Dr. Marina Suarez published a commentary in AGU’s Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology about our Fetrow et al. (2022) study of glean paleoclimate information from complex terrestrial stable isotope records.
August 2022
Excited to be starting at Bates College as a Visiting Assistant Professor for AY 2022–2023 in the Department of Earth & Climate Sciences!
May 2022
It feels pretty surreal that I defended my PhD dissertation this week. I’m so grateful to my wonderful community that truly has made getting to this point possible!
